New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg says there would be riots in the United States if the White House does not resolve the unemployment crisis in the country.
“We have a lot of kids graduating college, can’t find jobs,” he said on his weekly radio show on Friday, New York Daily News newspaper reported.
“That’s what happened in Madrid. You don’t want those kinds of riots here,” he added.
Meanwhile, US President Barack Obama has been pressuring the Republicans to pass his proposed job creation plan.
The US president’s 447-billion-dollar bill aims to stir up the economy specifically the employment sector.
Republicans argue that the bill will only add to the huge deficit Washington is trying to cut down.
“The damage to a generation that can’t find jobs will go on for many, many years,” Bloomberg said.
The US Labor Department said on Friday that the jobless rate in 20 US states were above the national rate of 9.1 percent last month, with Nevada’s level springing up to 13.4 percent.
Washington D.C., South Carolina, Florida, Rhode Island, North Carolina, Mississippi and Georgia are among the top 10 areas with the highest jobless rates, all with a rate above 10 percent.
