Actually, it has not worked perfectly which is where Quantum Mechanics steps in. Neither General Relativity nor Quantum Mechanics has it quite right though because General Relativity falls apart on the atomic scale and smaller, and Quantum Mechanics has gaping holes in its understanding and the application of these theories doesn’t cut the mustard for events larger than the atomic scale.
