Last week Nigerians voted during parliamentary elections.

At least two explosions have hit near one of Nigeria’s voting centers only hours before the polls open for the country’s presidential election.

No casualties have been reported after the Friday and early Saturday blasts in the city of Maiduguri, AFP reported.

“The attackers, who were in a moving car, threw the bomb which exploded about 20 meters to the office, destroying shops and stalls around. However, the office was unscathed,” said state police commissioner Michael Zuokumor.

Although four candidates are running for presidency, incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan and former military General Muhamm-edu Buhari are said to have a greater chance of winning.

According to the report, the recent violence ahead of the presidential election has claimed the lives of some 12 people.

Nigeria had earlier expelled 87 nationals of the Republic of Niger after they allegedly attempted to rig this month’s election.

According to UPI news agency, more than 50 people were killed in election-related violence in the most populous African nation last year.
