It is time to come with a follow up story to further prove that the Microwave oven is seriously dangerous to people and not only.

It is claimed by Microwave oven producers and even scientists that the Microwave oven is not only ok to use but it is actually even recommended. Some go as far as claiming that it makes the food more healthy.

Cancerhelp.co.uk says for example that “microwaving can actually be quite a healthy way to cook” but how could it be healthy when it radiates the food and it destroys vitamins such as Vitamin B12?

It is true that the Microwave oven uses a nonionizing form of radiation which is not as cancerous as the ionizing radiation but still are you willing to risk your health over a fast way to heat your food? There are other ways to heat your food without any risks and controversies.

Some but not all studies suggest that long-term exposure to nonionizing form of radiation may have a carcinogenic effect. Needless to say is that the ionizing radiation is highly carcinogenic (can provoke cancer) and only few exposures to ionizing radiation can result in a random form of cancer. Exposure to ionizing radiation is done when you take an X-Ray for example or by other means.

The Human DNA is very sensible to radiations of any form, so long time exposure to both ionizing and nonionizing radiation can change a cell’s DNA. If this happens, then the cell’s in built instructions about how to live and grow are jumbled around. It is then possible for the cell to do something very different from what it is supposed to do. For example, it may become cancerous and keep reproducing in an uncontrolled way. This could take years to happen but it still means that a cancer may eventually develop.

Now after knowing why the Microwave oven is dangerous it is time to present an experiment conducted at home almost five years ago by Arielle Reynolds from Knoxville, Tennessee.

Below is a science fair project that Arielle Reynolds did. In it she took filtered water and divided it into two parts. The first part she heated to boiling in a pan on the stove, and the second part she heated to boiling in a microwave. Then after cooling she used the water to water two identical plants to see if there would be any difference in the growth between the normal boiled water and the water boiled in a microwave. She was thinking that the structure or energy of the water may be compromised by microwave. As it turned out, even she was amazed at the difference. So if the microwave water kills plants it can definitely hurt people too. It is easy to make this test and moreover, everyone is encouraged to make a similar test and let us know of their results.

  1. I am just wondering how much water you fed each of your plants?
    Thanks heaps please reply!!!

  2. Fist of all let me say that you one should always site their source, especially if they are going to use word for word the writing of another person. “Ionising radiation can change a cell’s DNA. If this happens, then the cell’s in built instructions about how to live and grow are jumbled around. It is then possible for the cell to do something very different from what it is supposed to do. For example, it may become cancerous and keep reproducing in an uncontrolled way. This could take years to happen but it still means that a cancer may eventually develop.” Taken directly from the website you noted at the beginning of the article: http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/cancer-help/about-cancer/cancer-questions/radiation-microwaves-and-cancer.
At least put quotations around it. Secondly, the same portion of your argument came directly frothe cancerresearchuk describing the effect of Ionizing radiation. Yet, you put it in your section describing the possible effects of all radiation. Misinformation and misleading at best. Feels more like an attempt to change the facts to suit your particular purpose. You discredit yourself throughout the entire article and then use the science fair project of a child to back up your claims. I don’t think so.

  3. I was pretty sure that the claim in this article was nonsense but some of my friends really believed in it so I tried a similar experiment myself. My result was that microwaving the water did no noticeable harm to my plant, as long as the water was allowed to cool to room temperature in order to avoid cooking the plants.

It’s time to transplant the plants, which means that the experiment has ended. After almost three months, there is no appreciable difference between the plants which received kettle-boiled water and those that received microwaved water.
      (…)
So, why did the plants in to original experiment, to which I linked in the first post in this series, shows such different results? I don’t know. Perhaps the experimenters unwittingly made a mistake which killed the plant receiving the microwaved water or maybe that plant just happened to contract some sort of disease. To be fair, one can’t completely discount the possibility that they intentionally sabotaged the experiment in order to achieve a result that corresponded to their beliefs.

  5. What I can accept at least in terms of theory is that many water molecules can loose an electron where others will gain that electron so that peroxides form and hydroxy radicals also form long enough to cause further ionization and specific oxidative reactions with cellular membranes which consists of various glyco-proteins, fatty acid ends with hydrocarbon tail bi-layers and proteins which can also turn into radicals due to the reaction of the incoming hydroxy radicals and peroxides formed by the microwave energies. Then these reacted protein side chains that have become radicals themselves can easily denature and there is where many of these medical pathologies can understandably develop over time. I would definitely like to see much spectroscopic evidence of not only the denaturing that may be going on but of the free radical and peroxide formation that may be going on due to the microwave energy bombardment. Particularly ESR, various NMR experiments with coupling constant shifts and perhaps X-ray crystallography of the cellular membranes.

  6. Seriously, people believe Snopes? In a world where we can’t trust the FDA, and major corporations are allowed to poison us, we need to stop buying into the belief that all technology was created for our convenience — most was not.

A doctor friend of mine (with doctorates in medicine, physics, mathematics, and others, plus a Phd in Naturopathic Medicine), did several side-by-side comparisons of the blood of individuals before and immediately after drinking water that had been “nuked”. The post-apocolyptic blood cells clumped firmly together and lost ability to function, which is cause for alarm for general blood cell health and also for individuals predisposed to circulatory problems.

I have not used a microwave for years, and have NEVER even once missed it.

  7. Nice experiment. The follow up was really debunking : http://www.snopes.com/science/microwave/plants.asp.
So I say 1-0 for microwave water but the match is still ongoing!
I really think microwaved water is bad but that not only disqualifies me as an observer but also creates a situation where I cause the expected effect.

  8. :)) You can see where she has cut the plant! this is so fake. People that do stupid stuff like this should be put down because some poor soul is going to believe this tripe

  9. I have a hard time taking such a poorly written article seriously (even when the content of the article if a flat out lie as well). Right from the very first sentence “It is time to come with a follow up story to further prove that the Microwave oven is seriously dangerous to people and not only.” That’s not even a complete thought! Next up the author claims “but how could it be healthy when it radiates the food” The word you’re looking for is “irradiate” (which is also not true, but whatever), I know that the author doesn’t understand basic science, but at least look up the words you don’t understand so you at least make sense with your fear-mongering. Lastly, if you think a science fair experiment performed at home with no controls or repetition is proof of anything, I’ve got a bridge in New York you might want to buy. Water is two hydrogen molecules and one oxygen molecule, that’s it. There’s no vitamins or nutrients. If a microwave could change the atomic structure of water, it would be an amazing scientific discovery and the first step towards the replicators you see on Star Trek.

    Please wait...
    • You are wrong on almost everything, water contains nutrients thats why there is normal water and destilled water, look up hydroponics, you ride on semantics it was written by a non english speaker what he says is correct he is only using the wrong word to describe it also 99.99% of the people are not bothered by that because they still understand it,being a grammar nazi wont discredit him, sorry.
Read my earlier comment, if microwave owens were safe on the longterm than why is it prohibited to advertise them in the EU?
Also even destilled water has properties wich we dont yet understand look up the theory of water memory.
Also discrediting something only because it was conducted outside of a controlled “professional enviroment” is pretty lame many inventions and dicvoveries were born in garages or in the nature Galilei, Tesla, Edison,Jobs, just to name a few, sometimes you have to think outside of the box.

      Please wait...
      • #Defiant – you are mistaken, which European countries ban advertising microwave ovens? Not the UK, France, Germany or Italy.

Water memory is a tenet of homeopathy and there is no evidence for it yet. As for hydroponics, the necessary water-born nutrients are deliberately added. Glen is quite right, water is just 3 atoms and cannot be disassociated by MW radiation.

The whole point of rigorous controlled environments is to avoid distracting anomalies and mistaken interpretation. You then cite some inventors who were VERY rigorous in their testing!!

I’m not sure Richard Stossel, the author of this article, is or isn’t an anglophone, but bad grammar always introduces confusion and ambiguity. The grammar in the article is very good, it’s the science that’s bad. And it is atrocious.

        Please wait...
      • The reason I attacked the grammatical content of the article is because there was zero scientific content to go after. You’re complete ignorance to hydroponics and the scientific method is rather telling as to why you believe this nonsense.

  10. sometimes there is no choice on how to heat up your food or this case water. our fast paced lifestyle unfortunately does not let us do things properly. Like cooking in a gas stove, or heating water in a pan. that’s why the microwave was invented to heat food already made in minutes. the point is according to experts, heating food in the microwave is not harmful. a way to avoid exposure to the radiation not to stand in front of it and not to look at it while in use. we need more evidence to come to a conclusion that cancer can be transmitted thru the magnetic field the microwave produces.

    Please wait...
    • There are coutnless cases where powerlines and radars especially amongst radar operators have caused cancer, so its not up to debate there are also multiple studies that prove that cellphones can trigger cancer.
In case of the microwave oven its not the microwave radiation thats the most dangerous(it uses the same tech as radars, look up magnetron), the most dangerous part comes when proteins are bombarded by microwave radiation, the proteins will be broken up but not in the same way when when fire is used but in an unnatural way, the body tries to build up itself is like a child using legoblocks to build something, when microwave comes into the picture its like crushing the blocks with a hammer and trying to piece together the damaged pieces thats what triggers the cancer, in the EU its forbidden to advertise microwave ovens, or sell GMO food, wonder why.
By the way you can use an electric water boiler instead of a microwave it needs around 2min to boil a liter of water.

      Please wait...
      • Would you like to actually do your research? Microwaves are dangerous to you only if you are exposed to large quantities of them at one time. Also, while the devices are not (necessarily) safe there’s nothing wrong with the way they work. They simply require true safety measures.

Additionally, what you’re thinking of with that ‘LEGO’ analogy would be gamma or UV light. They don’t interact with you much at all and are significantly more dangerous than microwaves.

        Please wait...
  11. :)) bunk.

  12. Replication is a fundamental of scientific method. It means repeating an experiment in exactly the same way to see if the results are repeated. So :

    Choose 2 plants.
Cut the leaves off the one you like least.
    Take photographs.

The water bit was irrelevant and a red herring. The above is following exactly what was done in the original “study”.

  13. I was very skeptical of this article the first time I had seen it. First off theres only one example of the two different types and there should be many more. To have a truly scientific expariment you cant rely on just one factor. I do not agree with this article.

    Please wait...
  14. Ok, so this is a sample size (n) of one? Ignore results. This is not scientific evidence. Do this with 1000 plants more than once and we can have a discussion about evidence.

    -Scientist

  15. Some questions:

Why is there only one plant per factor?
Where is there no control i.e. a plant that did not receive heated water?
Why cut the leaves off thus denying us the actual evidence?
Cutting the leaves off left open wounds subject to infection while also reducing the plant’s ability to photosynthesise its way to health again.
Why is the earth a different colour in the pots?
    Different types of earth?
    Different ventilation?
    Different temperature?
    Different watering (drought? root rot?)
Why is the microwaved plant leaning over so much – was it kept in the dark and stressed?

In short, the only conclusion that one can validly make is that scissors can cut leaves.

BUT – all this supposes this was a sincere experiment, though appallingly done. But was it? Was there a sinister element?

Look at days 1 and 5 and spot a difference, any difference. Any difference at all. The ONLY difference is in the microwaved plant. Look at the lighting, reflections and shadows and you will notice they are not in keeping with rest of the picture, they have been FAKED. When Nature refused to comply, rather than change their hypothesis as is done by the scientist, here the evidence is falcified. This is a fraudulent attempt to trick you into believing an argument with no merit.

Sorry. This is FALSE. Disregard it.

  20. Ill say it before someone else does. Microwaving food is not bad for you. While it does radiate the food and destroy the vitamins. The radiation does not stay connected to the food, now does Destroying some vitamins make the food unhealthy, considering we are already to supposed to take daily vitamins. Saying microwaves are bad is a lie. Also I realised something. And purified water wouldn’t boil in a microwave. It would heat past boiling point and just be hot as hell. Just saying
. Doing that to a plant would of course. Kill it.

    Please wait...
  21. I’m impressed at the perfect scissor cuts the microwaved water made on the plant…

Seriously, though, radiation doesn’t stay in water… What microwaves do is that they make the water molecules vibrate, but they don’t change the structure of the molecules. If they did, then that would disprove VSEPR and a bunch of other scientific facts that are obviously real things. I mean, if she did the experiment honestly, then the best explanation of the results is that the soil or the seeds in the microwaved one were bad. But the fairly obvious places where the leaves were cut off suggest scientific dishonesty, which brings me to my next point: this was not a peer-reviewed scientific article. It was a science fair project. And they’re reporting on it. And frankly, being that there was exactly one trial, I have a very hard time understanding how slow the news must have been in order to call that news…

    • If the article states that is is nonionizing from of radiation but it is not cancerous then it also states that it causes carcinogenic effects that could be cancerous. Obviously, heating anything in the microwave is not healthy. Because radiation is bad for the human body , it also destroys B12.
Heating things in a pan on the stove might be old school but, it will prevent getting cancer from the microwave. Don’t be lazy, you could prolong your life.
