seriously though? i have read so many contradicting stories about these damn birds… First off I am from Arkansas near where the supposed gas leak was… Their were federal workers wearing hazmat(hazardous material) suits masks and all, picking the dead birds up by dawn…. quick reaction time.. why do the birdsdie? there are a multitute of theories. birdsdie.com

It is rather unfortunate when authors fail to check the physical possibility of what they write, especially when attention would better be focused on urgent matters (climate change, peak-oil / food / water etc.)

One topic from the article will be shown as incorrect or if the reader likes, a case of fear mongering: that of “interstellar clouds”.

The density of space clouds has been given as “between 180 and 1,900/cm^3”

So per cubic meter, a worst-case space cloud contains 1.9*10^9 molecules of HCN (hydrogen cyanide). Via Avogadro’s number 6*10^23 and the molecular weight of HCN (27) it follows that 1 molecule of HCN has a weight of 4.5*10^-23 g (gram).

One cubic meter of such a space_cloud then contains 1.9*10^9*4.5*10^-23 = 8.55*10^-14 g of HCN.

it can be read that the density of HCN in the air to kill a human in less than 10 minutes is 0.3 g / m^3

The concentration of HCN in the space_cloud is a factor of 3.51*10^12 lower! (10^12 = 1 TRILLION).
