“The Collapse of Nationality: The Universal State”

The replacement of the separate countries of Europe with a single state — The European Union — was predicted by Professor Arnold Toynbee in “A Study Of History” as part of the decline of a civilization.

Toynbee observed that as a civilization collapsed, the separate countries making up the civilization merged into one unit—a universal state:

“..these societies starting as unities on the cultural plane, without being united on the political plane. This régime is favourable to social and cultural progress; but its price is chronic warfare between the local states;..,after a long drawn out ‘time of troubles’, is belatedly retrieved by the establishment of a universal state.”—Part I ‘The Shape Of History’: Chapter 7 Hellenic and Chinese models

Toynbee thereby predicted the transition of Europe from a number of quarrelling nations, into a single community known as ‘The European Union’, but Toynbee also made it clear that such unity was a symptom of disintegration, not growth:

“Universal states are, let us remind ourselves, essentially negative institutions. In the first place, they arise after, and not before, the breakdowns of the civilizations to which they bring political unity.” — Part V ‘The Disintegrations Of Civilizations’: Chapter 32 Universal States: Ends Or Means

Why Universal States Appear

While Toynbee was accurate in his observations he had no clear idea of the mechanism involved. He did not realize that a nation was a shared understanding, expressed in the traditions of the community, which conferred a unique communal personality (a culture). So as these traditions are discarded under the impact of selfishness, this unique communal understanding disappears along with its particular personality; so losing its communal identity. In this way the separate nations become merely mass of nondescript humanity: a universal state.

The Nature Of The Citizens Of A Universal State
The Englishman with the stiff-upper lip who eats stodgy food and plays cricket; the humourless German who eats cabbage and sausages; the excitable, verbose, Frenchman who drinks wine; they have all been replaced by citizens with no sensible tradition. The political borders which previously separated peoples with separate, distinct notions of duty and justice—a nationality — have become meaningless lines on a map indicating where these nations once were; for now all these once different peoples have become united by selfishness, which is a lack of notions about duty or justice other than self-interest—a rabble; whose only borders are those set by geography.

The citizens of a universal state are merely a mass of selfish individuals, bound together by a corrupt, inept bureaucracy, intent only upon exploiting each other, while avoiding all demands of self-sacrifice; ruled by the superstition that their unfettered fears and fancies spawn, such as ‘Global Warming’ or ‘Multiculturalism’.

Yes ‘skylab’, more “end of times” chants are in order, for the state of affairs in the Western world today is exactly that prophesied by Christianity. Most citizens are odious creatures blind to the folly of their own actions – inane parasites drifting through life just searching for an opportunity to satisfy their lusts, constantly searching for distractions, novelty and selfish aggrandizement, with no regard for Natural Moral Order, including fidelity to race, which is, after all, merely an extension of the family. This deplorable state of affairs can only result in eventual civilizational collapse as individual existence becomes more superficial, even meaningless, and society inexorably falters.

Personally whether there is a judgement day or not, who can REALLY say with authority?, I think such a philosophy is good for society because it helps people act with a certain level of regard, whereas people who think that this life is it and theres no judgement tend to abuse people and things in the pursuit of every last delight, as if a comet were coming to earth. They want to have sex in the streets and kill anyone who slighted them and so on

You say that Muslims are violent, yet fail to mention that in every religion there is an extremist. Need me to mention the KKK, sure they don’t blow up people but what they do is torture them to death. All Muslim haters talk about is the world trade center and how bad it was, I absolutely agree; but come on, those who committed that violent attack do not present all of Islam. The Quran does not teach violence nor does it encourage it. The texts like any other scripture can be taken out of context. It is also a fact that Christianity since biblical time is responsible for the majority of killings especially the crusades; thousands of innocent people died their only wrong doing was that they did not believe in Christianity; heck! Even christens where killed, but it was because their where not Latin they where Greeks, which meant that they weren’t as christen because they had a darker skin. Now don’t take me wrong I don’t hate Christianity or Christens. I respect them as I respect any other religion as fellow believers in the all mighty god. The fact is that every religion has some sort of blood in its hands. I am Muslim and there’s no way that I will want the death of someone because they believe in something else. As for those who say that whites are superior to black in terms of IQ’s don’t make me laugh. From a young age children whether black or white there is no difference in their intellect and one factor for whites having high IQ’s is because IQ tests are standardized for white people. This gives a distinct advantage to people who can dismiss as unimportant anything that doesn’t directly pertain to their culture. Only a century later, though, the Ottomans and their Muslim contemporaries in Mughal India and the Persian Safavid Empire ceased to support scientific research and innovations.
This change was due in part to the shifting priorities and educational systems of these empires. Not unlike Europe in previous centuries, groups wanting to protect the status quo became more powerful than those advocating growth and experimentation. Meanwhile, building on the earlier accomplishments of Muslim scientists, Europe’s scientific and industrial revolutions began to give the West a military and economic advantage over the Islamic world.
