A mysterous Muslim group with unknown sponsors has purchased a building steps away from Ground Zero.
An identified group with unknown sponsors has purchased building steps away from where the WorldTrade Center once stood, to turn it into potentially one of the largest New York City mosques.
At the moment the building, the old Burlington Coat Factory, already serves as a mini-mosque: an iron grill lifts every Friday afternoon for a little known Imam leading prayers a few yards away from where Osama Bin Laden’s airborne Islamist bombers killed nearly 3000 people back in 2001.
The Imam, Feisal Abdul Rauf, told the New York Times, which put the story on its front page Wednesday, that he has assembled several million dollars to turn it into ‘’an Islamic center near the city’s most hallowed piece of land that would stand as one of ground zero’s more unexpected and striking neighbors.’’
The 61-year-old Imam said he paid $4.85 million for it, in cash, records show. With 50,000 square feet of air rights and enough financing, he plans an ambitious project of $150 million, he said, akin to the Chautauqua Institution, the 92 Street Y or the Jewish Community Center.
The origins of such monies are unexplained; neither are the countries or entity advancing such huge donations. Most US mosques, including many in Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx are funded directly or indirectly by Saudi Arabia the country to which 15 of the 19 hijackers who bombed the World TradeCenter belonged. The UAE, Qatar and Iran are other major sponsors across the USA.

I am a Canadian (proudly), and I choose to live here with my American husband and 2 children…I love both of these strong, beautiful countries…My oldest son serves in the Canadian Navy, my husband is a Marine who served 8 and 1/2 years serving his country proudly, I am however, VERY concerned and wary of ANY persons coming and going with women who are not ALLOWED to look people, especially men in the eyes…not ALLOWED to speak unless spoken too, kept like slaves, FORCED and BRAIN-WASHED into wearing garments that give NO indication of the person underneath it, (I do know about this personally as I spoke to one woman briefly about her rights as a woman in that way of “life”…) she could not talk to me outright and had to “hide”…She was made to lie at her “husband’s” feet in the airport and not move until he told her she could…When I see and hear “laws” in THIS country and Canada, that protect the violent behaviors of people who have murdered, scammed, and are blatantly aggressive toward the tax-paying, innocent, hard-working, people who ARE proud of their country…when children are taught in these very schools that bullying will NOT be tolerated…but see mosques being built by the same group of people who MURDERED thousands of us…I use the word “US” deliberately…the people murdered WERE our neighbors, our wives, our children, our co-workers, our parents, our friends….and we DARE to FORGET??????????, we DARE to “put 9-11 behind us”??????? I had to say ” Yes….It scares me too”…a picture says a thousand words….I wonder also if the woman behind the mask is even AWARE that she has rights…maybe we should sue them because the “burqa” is offensive to us…what it represents…there is NOTHING “FREE” about it…oppression, violence, hatred, and submission is the message it sends…My husband and I laughed last night, when a Fox news show stated that the women who wore these frightful things were polled and the women said that they chose to wear it…of course they would!..what else do they know??????
