150 Gypsies, almost all of them Romanian citizens occupied on November 21 a church in Milan, Italy after they have been evacuated from a nomadic camp.
In the morning of November 19 almost 200 gypsies have been evacuated from a building that they have illegally occupied in Rubattino from Milan.
Amnesty International has opposed the evacuation of the nomadic camp by sending a petition to Milan’s prefect, Gian Valerio Lombardi. “Such operations, run without legal protection are forbidden by the international rights, representing a grave violation of some rights, especially the right of having an adequate home” says Amnesty International.
So Amnesty International is saying that a thief can simply go steal someone’s house and the police should not evacuate him out because it’s violating the thug’s rights of having a home.
In the context that the gypsies have no place where to live, 150 of them illegally occupied another building again, this time a church, Sant’Ignazio di Loyola” from Pietei Borotti (Milan).
Most of them are women and children, who invaded the church so that they can get free rent from the Catholic parish. Contacted by Il Giornale, the parish priest preferred not to comment the event: “I prefer to say nothing, it’s better that way”, he declared.
