Number of births increases by 5% in Russia despite the crisis

The biggest increase was noted in:
Tula – 97.75% White (95.5% ethnic Russian, rest mostly Byelorussian, German & Ukrainian).
Smolensk – 98.11% White ( 93.5% Russian, 1.6% Byelorussian, 1.7% Ukrainian).
Magadan / Kolyma – 93.13% White (This is where Stalin set up most of the gulags. 80.2% Russian, 10.0% Ukrainian, 1.2% Byelorussian, 0.5% German & 0.3% Mordvin).

Births for the first half: 849,300 (+5.2%)
Deaths: 1,029,100 (-3.9%)
Natural Decline: -179,800 (-32.4%)

According to the press release by Tomsk Oblast (located in the Asian part of Russia, Population 95.3% White with 90.9% Russian, 1.6% Ukrainian, 1.3% German, 0.5% Byelorussian & 0.2% Mordvin) states that the oblast recored natural growth of population for the first time since 1992.

Births (1st half, 2009): 6,698 (+4.0%)
Deaths: 6,694 (-3.1%)
Natural Decline: Reversed

Birth rate change from other provinces:

* Kolyma / Magadan (93.1% White): Births up 11.2%. Deaths down 9.4%. Natural decline of population down 75% at -0.07% per year.
* Irkutsk (93.8% White): Births up 6%. Natural growth of population from 2008 onwards.
* Transbaikal (91.7% White): Births up 2%, Deaths down 7%. Natural growth of population from 2005 onwards.
* Birobijan (96.3% White): Births down 1.5%, Deaths down 14.4%. Natural decline of population down 61% at -0.14% per year.
* Komi Republic (96.9% White): Births up 8.6%, Deaths up 3.9%. Natural decline down 45.5% at -0.06% per year.
* Republic of Karelia (98.2% White): Births up 4.6%, Deaths down 4.2%, Natural decline down 21% at -0.45% per year.
* Rep. of Udmurtia (91.7% White): Births up 4%, Deaths down 4%, Natural decline down 70% at -0.03% per year.
* Perm (92.4% White): Births up 2.2%, Deaths down 5.1%, Natural decline down 31% at -0.20% per year.
* Kirov (96.3% White): Births up 8%, Deaths up 1.1%, Natural decline down 11% at -0.53% per year.
* Yaroslavl (97.7% White): Births up 6.9%, Deaths down 6.1%, Natural decline down 23% at -0.61% per year.
* Bryansk (98.8% White): Births up 5.8%, Deaths down 4.3%, Natural decline down 17% at -0.67% per year.
* Belgorod (98.0% White): Births up 2.7%, Deaths down 2.4%, Natural decline down 14% at -0.42% per year.
* Arkhangelsk (98.3% White): Births up 0.2%, Deaths down 4.2%, Natural decline down 20% at -0.20% per year.
* Vologda (98.8% White): Births up 5.2%, Deaths down 1.7%, Natural decline down 18% at -0.52% per year.
* Khabarovsk (94.9% White): Births up 3.3%, Deaths down 7.5%, Natural decline down 48% at -0.16% per year.
* Altay Krai (97.9% White): Births up 5.2%, Deaths down 6.3%, Natural decline down 38% at -0.26% per year.
* Novosibirsk (96.8% White): Births up 2.4%, Deaths down 5.9%, Natural decline down 41% at -0.17% per year.
