It looks like they like extremism. A Russian girl told me years ago that when she was in school, it was illegal to have a boyfriend or girlfriend. Years later, Russia went to the other extreme and became known as a “Sex Soaked” country. Most porn stars are Russians and Ukrainians. Here is some info:

Sex is very much in the mind of Russians and Ukrainians – maybe because of the strict moral code during the Soviet era. I am sure that authorities noticed that things are getting so bad now that they saw the need for this new law.
(Apparently, Kiev is the sex capital of Europe)

And you actually think this will bring about a change? It won’t, at all. Restricting freedom of expression is never a solution.

I’m pretty certain human trafficking and child pornography have always been illegal in Ukraine, right? Did these things being illegal stop them from occurring in large numbers?
The reasons for problems such as these are diverse, corrupt law enforcement agencies (itself a symptom of a dysfunctional government) are one of them. Why don’t the traffickers and child porn rings get smashed and the perpetrators arrested? Because they have money and can just bribe away every investigator on their tails.

Making something illegal that simply shouldn’t be, just to appeal to moralist zealots and ease the international pressure, is intentionally distracting from the real roots of the problems to make it look like something’s actually being done, and it’s a human rights violation on top of that.
