A Roma mother from Republic of Moldova tried to sell her child for 12 lei (1 US Dollar). All this happened at Briceni, announces the Internal Ministry of Kishinev.
“I will kill him if you don’t buy him. I got 3 other children and I don’t have money for this one so I’m selling it”, declared Oxana Elinciuc which is suspected of selling her own child.
She is 29 years old and sold her baby for only 1 dollar.
On June 18 the Police from Briceni received an information about this from local Elena Toderaşcu which lives in Bălţi. In the declaration it was written that a young woman has sold her child for 12 lei.
On that day in the train station from Briceni the suspect approached a lady that was waiting for the train towards Bălţi and asked her for 200 lei for the child that was holding on her arms, a girl of 10 days. The woman responded that she doesn’t need a newborn child, nor does she has such as sum of money.
Then Elinciuc said that if she doesn’t buy the child she will go kill her because she doesn’t want it and she doesn’t have the money necessarily to raise a child. Scared for the child’s life Elena Toderaşcu said that she will buy the baby for 12 lei because she doesn’t have more than that and the Gypsy mother agreed. Asked if the baby has documents, she answered “she doesn’t have anything because I gave birth all by my self 10 days ago in a nearby garage.
The astonished woman took the child in her arms while the Gypsy mother took the money and left. “The buyer” took the baby home, washed it, feed it, named it Maria and went to the police.
Now the baby is in the hospital of Briceni, its health status being critical, but stable.
Shortly after the complain at the police station, the Gypsy woman has been identified and arrested. After a short investigation the police found that the woman lives in the village Mărcăuţi from Briceni and has 3 more children. For the crime committed, Oxana Elinciuc will loose her parental rights while she risks 20 years in prison.
