Former member of the House of Representatives in Louisiana, David Duke, decries his comparison by Rush Limbaugh and others to Supreme Court nominee, Sonia Sotomayor, saying the she supports racist discrimination against White people, while he has been a long advocate of merit-based promotion.

“Limbaugh, a recent addict to illegal drugs, has no business making personal attacks against me for my past. I have consistently supported true equal rights, stating again and again that I support the best-qualified person regardless of race in hiring and promotions,” said Duke, who is currently doing research in Italy, in an interview with a reporter from an Italian newspaper, Affaritaliani.

Duke in 1992 authored and passed a Louisiana House of Representatives bill which forbade racially discriminatory affirmative action. Sotomayor, on the other hand, authored the New Haven Appeals Court decision which supported blatant racial discrimination against nine White firemen who earned their promotion by merit. Sotomayor supported throwing out the results of the promotion exam because no Blacks earned the qualification bracket. Duke is quoted as saying, “Imagine if Black candidates for promotion scored higher than Whites in a promotion exam and then were denied promotion because the Whites scored lower. There would have been outrage against this ‘racism’ across America.”

Dr. Duke, a PhD who lectures about half the year in Europe, also criticized Judge Sotomayor as an activist in the primarily Mexican organization, La Raza, which literally means “the race.” Duke says her racial bias can be seen in a statement she made in a speech delivered in 2001: “I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.”

Duke responds, “Once again, the hypocrisy is clear. Imagine if a White nominee for Supreme Court Justice said that he believed White judges would be more likely to reach better decisions than Black or Mexican judges. He would not have a chance in hell to be confirmed to the Supreme Court. Why should she?”

Sotomayor, whose appointment has ignited a sustained controversy among both Democrats and Republicans, has long been an activist for radical-Left Mexican organizations and an enthusiastic proponent of racial discrimination against White people called affirmative action.
