President Nicolas Sarkozy announced Wednesday that he wanted for school re-entry 2008 that each pupils portrays himself as a French Jewish child victim of the Shoah, during an annual dinner meeting of the representative Council for he Jewish institutions in France (CRIF).
Sarkozy declared:
“I asked the government, and more particularly the Minister of National Education, Xavier Darcos, to mandate that, each year, starting from the school re-entry 2008, all the young children see themselves entrusting to the memory of one of the 11.000 French children victims of Shoah”, declared Mr. Sarkozy. “the children of CM2 will have to know the name and the existence of a child who died during the Holocaust. Nothing is more intimate than the name and the first name of a person. Nothing is more moving for a child than the history of a child by his age, which had the same plays, the same joys and the same hopes as him “, he added.
The Prime Minister Francois Fillon and a big number of members in the French government, in which Mr. Darcos, took part at the dinner of CRIF, in Paris. It is the first time that a president of the Republic attends this annual dinner of CRIF.
