Ottawa Police recruits immigrants in their ranks

With many departures to retirement within 5 years, the Service of Police forces of Ottawa seeks to bring multi-ethnic diversity amongst its ranks.
In order to better reflect the diversity of New Canadians.

According to the recruiting officer in charge of the Police department of Ottawa, Syd Gravel, there is more that 60 cultural communities,in the city which speak more that 70 different languages.

Mr. Gravel indicates
“For us and others like the emergency service, one finds that it’s very important to engage in multiculturalism as much as possible so that one is able to work easily with all these various cultures”.

The Ottawa police plans to replace its white police officers with people from cultural communities.
