Despite growing hostility toward homosexuality in Germany, where 78.9% of young Turks and 47.7% of Germans react negatively on a public poll, where they were asked what was their reaction when they see a male homosexual couple kiss in public.
On February First, in Berlin some large size posters with the words “Familly is where children are” (Familie ist, wo Kinder sind) have been posted with two men or women with “their children” all over town.
Financed by the municipality of Berlin, this propaganda on a large scale aiming at assimilating the acceptance of homoparentality is accompanied by a BOOKLET of information available in the German and Turkish language.
In cooperation with the lesbian and gay association of Berlin (Lesben und Schwulenverband Berlin-Brandenburg), the representant of Social Affairs an member of the SPD, Heidi Knake-Werner whose goals in politics are to fight against discrimination to promote the integration of non-European immigrants in German society, wants to sensitize people to the prejudices that gay couples face toward adopting children, along with the taxes exemption accorded only to heterosexual parents.
Heidi Knake-Werner declared:
Berlin is an world-open and tolerant city. But this tolerant handling with one another is not always and everywhere a matter of course. Still there are many prejudices opposite lesbians and gays as parents. From numerous studies we know however that the children of homosexual parents do not develop differently than those heterosexual parents.”
